Are games on Facebook bad?

There are a lot of people that i know who have problems putting facebook down. There are so many things to do when you are on facebook. If you get tiered of talking to your friends then you can just play a game. The games on facebook are already a big market just like apps for I phone. All this stuff is something people are willing to waste there time on even thought they know what they are doing. My mother is totally addicted to that vacation game on facebook. Not really sure what she sees in that game but even though my dad gives her crap for playing it all the time but she still plays. I guess it is cool for here to have fun and be able to zone out for a period of time. I find it kind of funny that they always told me to stop playing games all the time and now it is my turn to tell them to stop playing games. Game design is my major and the first thing they told us is that more than likely we will be making game that become apps because the market for that now is huge. Knowing how to use flash player is a skill that might go even further than being able to use these big 3D programs. There doesn’t seem like there are many kids getting addicted to these games on facebook.

Social networking

Phones are not what they used to be. I would say that they are based more around keeping up with friends on Facebook and playing games. When apple came out with its I-phone 4 it was a complete mess, there were complaints that you could not make calls because the antenna was put in a bad place that killed the reception. This issue was so bad that it earned the name “death grip”. This issue gave apple a bad reputation for a while. Android has problems with the android eye on the phone that senses when your face is on the phone and darkens the screen when you put it up to your face. When the screen is not darkened it allows you to press buttons and hang up in some cases or call other numbers. With all these problems with phones calling functions it is apparent that phones are no longer made for calling. I was reading on some people’s forms and noticed that people had even commented on other people’s post or complaints about why no one had addressed some of the problems with its call function. Its pretty sad when a phone company overlooks its call function because that is what people need when they buy a phone. This mistake just goes to show how social networking, or making friends is more important than keeping them in so many words.

Bully.

I have not heard too much about bullying online before that class session. But aparently it is a problem with some web sites. Its probably not fair for a group or body of users to gang up on one person. There was that issue with that girl getting ganged up on by 4-Chan for her being a punk rocker or something or other. Well all that stuff that people post on the computer stays there for a long time and you never know who is reading what. There really is no need for someone to hate on someone else on the internet… to each his own. People can be pretty mean sometimes and its really not fair to certain people to be ganged up on.

Hahaha. I did it but it is awful. I have video padcast kind of thing…. you can barely see me. Its my atempt to make a video blog. Anyways Its is based on having cultured friends. I myself am hispanic but like the video said… im probably racist.  

Computer future

With so many advancements in technology it kind of makes you wounder what our limit is. There are movies that depict our future bleak, and we are at the mercy of what we have created. This does not seem like it is too far from what could happen. Given, the movies might take it a little too far. Some things to think about when technology becomes more advanced: a far more elite generation of hackers, the reason some people hack in the first place is because they enjoy the thrill of cracking codes and hacking programs. When you start hacking the only way you get better is by cracking more and more codes. Its a hobby just like any other. The more codes we put out there, the more we advance and so do all the problems that come with advancement. Programs fail and viruses are created! It seems we are going to rely to much on computers in the future because of all the social networking competiton out there. Everyone is trying to create the next big program that does everything and trump all the other company’s. Are we preparing for an era of non verbal comunication? Some of these social networks are also damaging peoples lives by incorporating games. In offense, these games are also a good way to meet people or just relieve stress and forget everything.  

Hacking on the internet

One thing that keeps happening in the internet gaming comunity is something called hacking. I don’t mean to speak to people as if they are dumb, but this is a giant problem with online play. If anyone has an online game then they have probably played with hackers. Normally hackers do not show up on games that have dedicated servers. A dedicated server is monitored all the time with Vac security. Most people that are caught on Vac or dedicated servers are banned from the game they are trying to hack. Some big game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Cod) are on a system called IWNet. IWNet is a system that places people into matches and does not monitor people at all. Everyone in the pc comunity was so upset to hear that Cod was changing to IWNet. The reason Cod changed there servers to IWNet was so they could transfer all the dedicated servers over to the Xbox and Playstation. What does this mean for Pc users? The fact that 90 percent of people have computers should mean that computer games should rule the market. These are not the facts though. Something like this kind of makes you wonder, maybe computer could become obsolete one day. All the backdoor that people find to hack things works the same with just being online. Identity theift is a pretty big problem for anyone who uses the internet for shopping. Have we already gone to far by giving a person an identity that can be stollen electronically. These are just some things to think about when a person gets to involved with internet use. Im not against the internet, I am just a cautious person when it comes to technology.

iM ABOUT TO SWIM

Swim meet is today. I am at it right now. I am a little scared of what is going to happen because I have been skipping swim classes all week. I had forgotten about this meet so now I am sitting here doing my homework instead of hanging out with friends. We just won our first relay race by tenth of seconds. I suffered greatly trying to swim that. I almost didn’t come to the meet out of laziness. I’m happy I came because this is actually fun. Now I just swam my 25 fly and I came in first again. The competition here is pretty good, they keep coming seconds within my time. The scariest thing about being at these meets is being on the block, you are the center of attention and I would normally like this but here it makes me feel sick. My next stroke to swim is my 50 freestyle. I’m worried another this one because it is the one I have been working on the most. I think my time should improve but I’m worried something will go wrong. So that stroke was terrible, i dove off the block and my goggles flew up and messed with my contacts. I came in second but he kid that beat me had my normal lap time. Anyways I’m pretty upset but I’ll manage.

Every time I have to write a new blog I am worried that we might have to add stuff to it or write about a topic. For now I will just write about how I feel. I feel as if I have become a bit despondent and I am not used to the way it feels. I am the kind of person who enjoys privacy but just this once I feel that I need to say something to make myself recover from this feeling. I’m not scared, mad, anger or anything in between. I’m just indifferent about everything that bothers me. When I start to feel this way I can fix it really quick without any  repercussions but I don’t think it should be able to happen as easily as it does. There is only one person who could ever get a real genuine feeling out of me but I messed things up with that forever ago. Most of what is going on with my feelings right now stems from a single person, a girl. She was the person who pulled me out of all the harmful stuff I was doing and allowed me to do something that I love with my life. Things did not work out between us and we fell apart. Some time later she became engaged to the next guy she met but one night she called me and we talked and that was the end of her engagement to that person. It was not intentional that I was possibly the cause of that. Recently I found out that she is engaged again to a different guy and it does something internally to me. I am not used to these emotions and it is very strange for me to convey them to someone. I can’t tell her and I just don’t like posting things on the internet. Luckily I am also very spontaneous so this is my awkward way of getting something off my chest.

Learning Tools (Not Boring)

Video games are a controversial topic with the people today. People can be completely consumed with the games they play and neglect studies or even  their daily routines. Video game designers are getting so good at their jobs that people spend countless hours on end without interaction. People miss out on normal life stuff because they would rather be playing games. Kids who play games seems to have a whole different mindset when it comes to life choices. Would it be safe to say that we should try to harness the fun of games and use it for learning. Video games are becoming a bridge to learning for our visual learners. The use of games for the learning environment may be our next step. Games can engage many different parts of the brain.  Carrie Heeter says in his article,  ”Video can do more than entertain,”

“Today’s games do engage the brain; different kinds of games engage different parts. Learning is one domain. Games such as Tetris and, to a lesser extent, Bejeweled, call upon visuospatial processing (the brain’s ability to perceive the spatial relationships among objects and to identify what those objects are). Playing a game as a first-person shooter – that is, playing a game with on-screen view that simulates the character’s point of view, usually while using a handheld weapon – uses visual perception and attention, as well as eye-hand coordination. A study by Beth Israel Medical Center found that laparoscopic surgeons benefited from playing games as first-person shooters. These surgeons committed fewer errors and completed surgery faster than those who did not play. First question when speaking to a surgeon: “Do you play Halo?”"

It is true that there are some bad aspects of games but there are also good ones to counter balance the bad. With games as a median for learning many visual learners can stand a better chance in schools. Its true there are some learning games on the market but none have gone the extra mile to be entertaining.
